About the Zine
[ 1. Creative Concept ]
The Moon Zine is a minimalist digital literary zine. It is built to encourage constrained creative writing. Writers deal 5 random emoji symbols from our generator, which serve as the creative prompts and constraints for their pieces. All published pieces are linked to the specific emojis that inspired them, mapping a shared constellation of writer responses.
[ 2. Frequently Asked Questions ]
Q: What's going on?
Moon zine is a project where you are encouraged to experiment with writing. The point of it all is simple, think story dice. Think it! You get five random emojis and it's up to you, what to make from them. I hope this project lowers the barrier of entry into writing. Rather than host people's mangun opus, let's just have some fun with writing.
Q: Why pretend it's zine?
Don't we all, always pretend to be something. I sure do. So let's pretend this is a zine. Each month, an issue end and if you have written in that month. Congrats and thank you for your creativity. I hope you also contribute in the next.
Q: Can I edit or delete my stories?
Yes. While logged in, you can manage your pieces under your contributor dashboard, allowing you to modify your bio, save drafts, edit existing pieces, or delete them entirely.
Q: Where is this project going?
Dunno. I hope somewhere, I have more features planned.
Q: Who do you think you are?
Just a Software Engineer that has been writing and rewriting and retooling on this project for too many years and is just happy it is live.
[ 3. Technical Colophon ]
This zine is a pure server-rendered Kotlin application using Ktor. It is built on a stack prioritizing simplicity, fast response times, and the stark print-zine design aesthetic.
